
Michael Wynne is an Olivier and BAFTA winning playwright and screenwriter from Birkenhead.
He wrote his first play The Knocky at university and it was produced by the Royal Court Theatre when he was 22. He’s had 8 plays produced by the Royal Court including The People Are Friendly, The Priory, Who Cares and Cuckoo. The Knocky won the Meyer Whitworth Award for Best New Play and The Priory won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. He’s also written plays for Frantic Assembly, Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, Chichester Festival Theatre and Actors Touring Company.
He’s written extensively for TV and film including Lapland, Being Eileen, As If, Sugar Rush, Grafters, EastEnders and Where The Heart Is. He co-wrote the film My Summer of Love which won the BAFTA for Best British Film and the Evening Standard Award for Best Screenplay.
He currently has a show DiscoShow playing at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and a new play, Clive opening Summer 2025 at the Arcola Theatre.
Michael has taught at various theatres all around the UK including The Royal Court, Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, Traverse, Manchester Royal Exchange – and internationally in Mexico, Australia, USA and Ghana.
