Want to enrich your storytelling? Start here
From Samuel Pepys and Charles Dickens to Lauren Elkin and Noreen Masud, the act of walking to unlock the creative process has inspired writers for generations. Over a day in and around Faber’s home in Hatton Garden, and in the company of up to fourteen of your fellow walkers and writers, you’ll discover how walking can unlock new ideas and push through creative blocks.
Hatton Garden, London’s iconic diamond district, provides a fascinating backdrop for this creative exploration. As you walk, you’ll uncover stories hidden within its streets – from its medieval past to its present-day rhythms.
With writer Taran Khan as your guide, you will write as you walk, using prompts and guided exercises, learning how to transform the experience of passing through a place into new stories.

Is this the right course for me?
This course is suitable for writers at any stage of their writing career, who would like to explore how walking can fuel their creativity and enrich their storytelling.
You might be a writer interested in expanding your work with mapping place, psychogeography or the relationship between movement and imagination. Or you might be looking for a fresh way to unlock ideas, push past creative blocks in your work and add a new dimension to your writing project.
This course includes a walking component along pavements and uneven surfaces and some parts of the route may not be wheelchair accessible. We recommend that writers are comfortable walking for moderate durations and navigating urban terrain. If you have specific accessibility needs, please contact us in advance to discuss accommodations on academy@faber.co.uk.
